Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE: Assist the Workers Compensation team by drafting and processing termination and accommodation letters, managing new claim notifications, and maintaining accurate claim trackers. Coordinate timely responses to claim inquiries, validate missed work hours through documentation review, and support return-to-work efforts through follow-up communications. Provide necessary documentation to adjusters and run wage reports as requested. Support inbound and outbound calls with various stakeholders including team members, nurses, adjusters, attorneys, and business leaders. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Draft and process accommodation and termination letters with FedEx documentation. 
  • Maintain and update claim trackers to ensure business awareness of new claims. 
  • Manage communications between adjusters, business partners, and internal teams for return-to-work coordination. 
  • Generate wage reports and provide required documentation for claims processing. 
  • Assist in tracking and validating missed work hours through medical documentation and timecards. 
  • Participate in a mini-process improvement project toward the end of the internship to suggest ways to improve the Workers Comp process more efficient.

  • Gain hands-on experience in workers compensation processes and related administrative tasks. 
  • Develop professional communication skills through interaction with various business stakeholders. 
  • Learn how to manage and update documentation accurately in a regulated environment. 
  • Understand the coordination between HR, medical, and legal teams in handling workers compensation cases. 
  • Build proficiency in tracking and reporting tools relevant to claim management. 

 

Tools, Systems, or Skills the Intern Will Learn: 

  • Document drafting and processing tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, FedEx system). 
  • Claim tracking and reporting software. 
  • Timecard and payroll validation processes. 
  • Professional communication and coordination with internal and external teams. 
  • Basics of workers compensation regulations and compliance requirements. 

 

Cross Functional Exposure Opportunities: 

  • Collaborate with Human Resources Directors (HRDs), Department Officers (DOs), and General Managers (GMs). 
  • Engage with external adjusters, attorneys, and nurses involved in claims. 
  • Participate in meetings related to claims processing, return-to-work planning, and compliance. 
  • Observe workflows involving claims validation, documentation handling, and payroll processing. 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field (junior or senior standing preferred). 
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and analyze financial information. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both written and verbal formats. 
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment. 
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
