Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our tax department. Reporting to the Director of Tax, this role owns the federal and state income tax compliance and provision process, manages relationships with external tax advisors, assists with the company's response to tax notices and audits, and supports indirect tax functions including sales and use tax and property tax. The Tax Manager will also contribute to ad hoc tax projects, process improvements, and strategic tax planning initiatives.
Income Tax Compliance
• Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns, including consolidated and combined/unitary filings, working in coordination with external preparers
• Oversee the tax compliance calendar to ensure timely filings, estimated tax payments, and extension requests
• Coordinate the collection and organization of tax information across business units, finance, and accounting teams
Income Tax Provision (ASC 740)
• Assist in the review of annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations
• Support external auditors during the year-end audit of the income tax provision
External Advisor Management
• Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for outside advisory / compliance firms
• Coordinate information requests, review deliverables of externally prepared work product
• Collaborate with external advisors on research projects, planning opportunities, and transactional matters as directed by senior leadership
Tax Notices & Audit Management
• Manage the receipt, tracking, and timely response to federal, state, and local income and non-income tax notices
• Coordinate income tax audits from initial information document request (IDR) through resolution, working with external advisors and internal stakeholders
• Assist in preparation of audit responses, protest letters, and appeals submissions
Ad Hoc Projects & Tax Planning
• Support M&A due diligence, integration, and post-acquisition tax matters as directed
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including automation, documentation, and internal controls related to tax
• Research federal and state tax law changes
• Provide tax support on financing transactions, intercompany agreements, and other special projects as needed
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate in-house tax
• Proficiency in federal and multi-state income tax compliance
• Experience managing or coordinating with outside advisors and third-party preparers
• Familiarity with sales and use tax compliance and indirect tax concepts
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong analytical and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues for non-tax stakeholders
